Prostate Gland
Problems
Prostate gland problems are very common in men of a certain
age, but many men are not very well informed regarding the
function of the prostate gland. A natural health lifestyle is
recommended to reduce the possibility of prostate problems.
The prostate gland is located beneath the bladder, and fits
around the urethra through which urine and sperm passes. It is
responsible for producing fluids present in semen, and is as
small as a pea at birth. The gland develops rapidly, as
testosterone levels increase at puberty, to become about the
size of a damson plum in early adulthood.
In middle age the prostate gland often starts to grow again,
and can result in a medical condition known as BPH, which
defines an enlarged prostate. The symptoms of BPH include an
increased frequency to urinate, accompanied by additional
discomfort. It can lead to sleep disturbances due to the need
to use the toilet at night. Prostate cancer is rare before
middle age, and more than half the cases occur in old age, to
men over 75 years old.
Prostate Gland Problems and Natural
Health
So can a natural health lifestyle reduce the risk of
prostate gland problems? The answer is that it most probably
can. For instance, there are some foods that may help if they
are included as part of your natural health diet.
Pumpkin seeds contain substantial levels of phytosterols and
zinc, considered important for prostate health. These seeds are
available from natural health stores, and the bonus is that
they taste good as well. You can add them to breakfast cereals,
or snack on them just as they are, to treat yourself in more
ways than one!
Tomatoes contain lycopene, which is what gives them their
wonderful red skins. They add colour and taste to any salad,
but they are equally tasty munched on their own. Research has
shown that eating plenty of tomatoes can reduce the risk of
prostate cancer, and may also help to prevent enlargement of
the prostate gland. Tomatoes are plentiful and they are not
particularly expensive, so think of including two or three a
day, as part of your natural health diet.
It goes without saying that natural health and exercise are
bosom buddies. Too much sitting can exert pressure on the
prostate gland. Many men have jobs that require them to sit
down for long periods, but getting up and walking about
periodically, will assist, even if it's only for a toilet
break. After the day's work is done, it is far better for your
natural health's sake, to indulge in some form of enjoyable
exercise, than to do more sitting down in front of the
television.
Making
Love is Better than Smoking!
There have been many debates with regard to how much
exercise is involved in making love, and whether it is
sufficient to be beneficial! Well it seems that it can be
advantageous, as far as the prostate is concerned. During the
process of ejaculation, muscles surrounding the prostate gland
get something of a work out. It's nice to know that doing what
comes naturally is good for your natural health!
Smoking is a big No! No! Not just to guard against prostrate
gland problems, but for the sake of the whole of your natural
health. Strangely, another contentious health issue, alcohol,
might actually reduce the risk of prostate problems. Moderation
is the key, because it is not suggested that alcohol
consumption should be increased, to the detriment of your
natural health. All it really means is that a little of what
you fancy can sometimes do you good, particularly if it is of
an organic variety.
Water
is Vital For Your Vital Parts
If drinking water is not a cure for all ills, it is vital to
your natural health, including help in preventing urinary
infections that could compound prostrate problems. Between one
and two litres of water per day is recommended, and will assist
in detoxifying and cleansing the system. There is a tendency
for people with urinary problems to drink less, but dehydration
is a bad thing. So, drink plenty of water, although it is wise
not to drink an hour or two before bedtime, for obvious
reasons.
Prostate gland problems are not given the publicity
they deserve. As with most disorders, prevention is better
than cure, and in this respect there is little doubt that a
natural health lifestyle will help.
Please remember that prostate gland problems can be serious.
Therefore, if you have any reason to believe that you have any
sort of prostate disorder, consult your doctor without delay
and act upon his advice.
